Description
Today the Traditional Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of, Saint John Baptist De La Salle, Confessor. He was the founder of the Institute of the Brothers of the Christian schools, Saint John Baptist De La Salle is called the father of modern pedagogy. In 1678 he was ordained to the priesthood and received his doctorate in theology in 1680. In 1691 he founded his first novitiate of Brothers at Vangirard, France. His place in ecclesiastical history is chiefly important from the social point of view, since at least two centuries before world changes rendered necessary the education of masses, and before technical schools had gained for themselves the all important place in the training of the young which had up till then been held exclusively by classical teaching, God gave him an intuition of this need as through by a prophetic vision. Saint John Baptist De La Salle, answering the divine call, resigned his honorable position as a canon of Rheims, and, overcoming much opposition and many difficulties, founded the Society of the Brothers of Christian Schools, which is still productive of so much good throughout the Catholic Church. He faithfully past away in Rouen, on Good Friday, April 7, in the year 1719, and at the age of 68 and was canonized by Leo XIII on May 24, 1900, who also extended the observance to the Universal Church.
