Saints Day
"Traditional Catholic Church"
Today the Traditional Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of, Glorious Saint Ann, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. She was married to the most Holy Saint Joachim of the tribe of David, and lived with him in all virtues and piety, but for many years she was childless. This she bore with all patience, until the Lord Jesus heard her supplications, and then she conceived the Mother of the most Holy Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God. This distinction on the praise of God was praise enough for her. On this account all the faithful have always shown great veneration to her, and continually to invoked her intercession for help, even till this very day. Privileges and graces with which God has surrounded the Immaculate Conception of His Blessed Mother Mary were reflected upon her happy parents, Saint Joachim and Saint Ann.
Devotion to the grandparents of the divine Redeemer spread almost everywhere in the East. The Syrians venerated Saint Ann under the name of Dina on July 25; other eastern Churches placed on another date. Pope Leo III placed pictures of Saint Joachim and Saint Ann in the Church of Saint Mary Major. Gregory XIII in 1584 inserted the feast of Saint Ann in the Roman Missal.
At Rome in the patriarchal basilica of Saint Paul the precious relic of the arm of Saint Ann was venerated even in the days of Saint Bridget of Sweden, who obtained a very small portion of it as a gift. Saint Ann then appeared to her and showed her how to venerate and take care of the sacred relics. Leo XIII and Benedict XV have given several fragments of the arm of Saint Ann to celebrated sanctuaries dedicated to her in Canada and in Normandy, where God has been pleased to honor them by performing various miracles.
Her feast was extended to the Universal Catholic Church by Pope Leo III in 1879. Pope Benedict XV visited her chapel outside the Vatican; this was the first time after 1870 that a Pope left the Vatican.
