"Traditional Catholic Church"
Today the Traditional Catholic Church celebrates the Feast of, Saint Alphonsus Mary De Liguori, Bishop, Confessor, Doctor of the Catholic Church. He was born of noble parents in the village of Marianella, near Naples, Italy, September 27, 1696. At the age of sixteen he earned his degree of Doctor of Laws. In 1726 he was then ordained to the priesthood. After a few years he founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer "Redemptorists" with the object of laboring for the salvation of the most abandoned souls. As Doctor of the Church, He was the great teacher of Moral Theology; he found the middle way between the two extremes of the lax and the over-rigorous, and by his ascetic writings and teachings, he spread amongst the people Catholic piety, devotion to our Blessed Virgin, to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, to the Passion, and defended the supreme rights of the Catholic Church, and of the Pope.
As apostle and bishop, Saint Alphonsus sought to imitate Our Divine Redeemer in His teachings, journeys, throughout the villages of Galilee and Judea. He then founded a new society of missionaries whom he destined to labor among the poor peasants and mountaineers rather than the inhabitants of the towns.
As founder of the new Order, Saint Alphonsus has the merit of having adapted the scope of his work to the needs of the time, and of having brought it to completion in spite of innumerable difficulties. Though it was approved by the Pope, the King of Naples refused to permit the new Order to establish itself. Saint Alphonsus was excluded from the houses of his own Order in the Kingdom of Naples. The schism existed until the death of Saint Alphonsus. He Faithfully pasted away at Nocera dei Pagani, Italy, in the year 1787. After his death everything had changed; the rejected founder is raised to the alters, and his Congregation extends its boundaries beyond the confines of Italy and of Europe. He was devoted in a special manner to the Holy Eucharist, and left a beautiful little book entitled, "Visits To The Blessed Sacrament."
