Today the traditional Catholic Church also celebrates the feast of, Saint Maurice and his Companions, and Martyrs. Saint Maurice was officer of Theban Legion, of the Emperor Maximian, composed of about 5000 soldiers, who was commanded by Saint Maurice. For refusing to pay tribute to the pagan gods, these Catholic soldiers were martyred for their true Faith in the year 286.
