Saints Day
"Traditional Catholic Church"
Today the Traditional Catholic Church celebrates the feast of Holy, Saint Josaphat, Bishop, Martyr. He was born in Poland in the year 1580, Saint Josaphat entered the Order of Saint Basil, then afterwards He was made Archbishop of Polotsk, in Poland. His labors for the Ruthenian Church, and with that of Rome are almost incredible. After being a youth of singular innocence mortified by voluntary penance, Saint Josaphat, remembering the powerful support lent to the orthodox cause by the monastic orders, He entered religion, and with the help of Velamin Rutski, devoted himself to the restoration of the rule of Saint Basil. As Superior of the monastery, Saint Josaphat had succeeded in keeping his disciples free from any schismatic taint, so too, as metropolitan he devoted himself to the conquest of error with ardent and enlightened charity. He gave to everyone the example of a Holy life, He also labored much for souls by his preaching, by his teaching in the catechism, and by the distribution of controversial works. As a result of his Holy zeal, many schismatics were reconciled back to the Catholic Church. His evil opponents at last resolved to take his life, He then faithfully suffered His martyrdom at their hands with great courage and serenity at the age of forty three years. In the year 1642, Urban VIII placed his name in the ranks of the Blessed, and Pius IX, on June 29, 1867, on the occasion of the centenary of the Princes of the Apostles, canonized the zealous champion of the Primacy of the Roman Catholic Church. The Ruthenians celebrate his feast on September 16. He is noted for his indefatigable efforts in uniting the schismatic Greek Church with the Roman Catholic Church. He was martyred by the schismatics, for the true Faith in the year 1623.
